Polaris, the new photo-j
agency started by JP Pappis, scored its first scoop by nabbing exclusive
rights on the picture of sniper suspects John Lee Malvo and John Allen Muhammad.
Pappis only secured the rights after the picture had been widely circulated as
what some believed was a hand-out. So Pappis then had to ask that the leaked
picture be withdrawn from news archives and re-licensed. The snapshot, taken by
Muhammad’s sister-in-law Shelia Tazano in July, shows the two close up in an
arm-in-arm embrace. "This one will remain the iconic image," Pappis predicts.
